Ohshima Fine Artでは4月5日(土)～4月26日(土)まで、森裕子個展「マリーの部屋と紫の花のクオリア」を開催いたします。

初日、毎週土曜日は作家在廊しております。
森裕子は1982年に千葉で生まれ、幼少期を大阪で過ごし、中学生まで愛知県で育ちました。
2007年に初の個展をトーキョーワンダーサイト本郷で開催した後、国内外で発表を続け、今回で3年ぶり、5回目の個展となります。
昨年、今年と損保ジャパン美術賞展にも出品しています。
今回、キャンバスの新作約１５～２０点、水彩紙に黒一色で描いた50号の二枚組作品と共に、少しずつ見え方が変わることを確かめるように毎日数枚、紙に描きとめてきた365日分の作品も展示いたします。作家の三年間の葛藤と喜びをつめこんだ展示を、是非ご高覧ください。

私たちはそれぞれの景色の中を歩き、それぞれの色を見ています。
他の人には見えない色もあります。
自分にはわからない色もあります。
相手には見えてないことを、なぜ見えないのだと言って一人苛立ち、
前まで見えていたはずのものが突然自分だけ見えなくなったり、見えなかったものが見えるようになったりします。
人と何かを共感できる瞬間というのは、奇跡に近いことなのかもしれません。

「マリーの部屋」とは1982年に哲学者フランク・ジャクソンによって提示された思考実験です。
白黒の部屋で生まれ育ったスーパー科学者マリーが、部屋から出てはじめて色のある世界にふれた時、
何か新しいことを知るのか？
マリーが何か新しいことを学ぶとしたら、クオリアが存在するということになるー

クオリアとは主観的に体験される様々な質感のことで、あの空の青さーあの夕日の赤い感じーなどの「あの感じ」のことです。

偶然にも、この思考実験の発表された年は私の生まれた年でした。
色のある世界にふれた後のマリーの部屋は、
言葉では説明できない感動の一つ一つ、それぞれのクオリアを集めるように、色とりどりのもので溢れたでしょう。
紙に黒一色の水彩絵具で描いていた時期がしばらく続いた後、
色に溢れた部屋をキャンバスに表現し始めた時の自分と、白黒の部屋を出た後のマリーが重なり、
展示タイトルを「マリーの部屋と紫の花のクオリア」としました。

We are walking pass different kinds of views, and seeing different kinds of colors.
There are colors which cannot be seen by others.
There are colors which cannot be understood by your own self.
While you question why something cannot be seen by others, there are times when you suddenly cannot see things which you used to be able to see, or when you can see something you could not see before.
It may be a miracle when there is a moment you can have a same feeling with others.

"Mary's room" is a philosophical though experience proposed by Frank Jackson in 1982. When super scientist Mary came out from a black-and-white room where she was born and grew up to a colorful world, would she know any new things?
Assuming Mary could learn some new things, it proves the existence of qualia.

Qualia is an individual instances of subjective, conscious experience. That blue of the blue sky, that red of the sunset.
Coincidentally, I was born at the year when this philosophy was announced.
After touching the colorful world, I believe Mary's room will be full of the qualia of things which cannot be explained by words.
After continuing a period drawing black color only on paper, I start to use canvas to show the colorful room.
It also mixes with the Mary who comes out from the black-and-white room.
Therefore, I make my exhibition title "Mary's room and qualia of purple flower".
